Our stud, Moondarra, commenced in the mid 1970's and in the initial stages bred derivatives, gradually progressing to purchasing our first purebred mare in 1976. Oxford Stardust was a Count Manilla daughter and we bred several foals from her, mainly English lines. One of the most noteworthy mares for us was Bright Light (Imp) bred at Crabbet Park and her daughters and granddaughters form the nucleus of our breeding programme. However, looking at what currently graces our paddocks, there is also Egyptian, Russian and Polish influences from three mares imported from Poland and their progeny. A real cosmopolitan style. It is more important to us to have a conformationally correct, athletic horse which is able to win at halter and under saddle rather than limit our choice to bloodlines.
The stud is situated on 62 acres in the picturesque Lockyer Valley of South East Queensland and boasts a wonderful stable complex and horse facilities. Our Senior Sire is Kyarnda Lodge Panache 28 years young this year 2018, who has produced exceptional progeny for us. These horses have won at Halter and Under Saddle to Australia Championship level as well as others who have gone into the endurance industry and competed well in Australia and overseas. Numerous Panache progeny have been exported to various countries in the endurance world. The daughters of Panache who have been retained by us are now breeding a fabulous new generation of horses that we anticipate will also compete extremely well on the show scene and in the endurance field.
Our other stallion, Samson Tai, an irredescent chestnut stallion standing 15hh in bare hooves, is a moving machine producing wonderful athletic progeny from the Panache daughters. Several of these progeny have also been exported for endurance. Samson is by Sambist, now deceased (a record holding arabian racehorse in Europe) mostly of Russian lines from Electra Tai, a wonderful combination of lines including English and Egyptian.
Our now Junior sire is the grey Peronii MA (Paddy), by the world renowned show horse extraordinaire and sire of sort after show horses EKSTERN, and from our imported dam Debowa Polana, (Polly) who has 2 foals born in 2018, an extraordinary exotic grey filly from Eltesja and an athletic grey colt from El Tessa. Suffice to say Paddy's foals have exceeded our expectations and he has a very bright future as a future sire of exceptional Arabians.
Also waiting in the wings is bay Moondarra El Tessara (Teddy) by the famous Janow stallion, also triple crown show winning POGROM (QR Marc from Petla) and whose dam is the lovely imported mare El Tessa.
